Algaeia is an AR experience that immerses users in the underwater soundscape of Lake Zurich, making human noise pollution—from ship engines and other activity—audible and sharpening awareness of its impact on aquatic life.
Algaeia originally started as a web-based Virtual Reality experience during the DODO Hackathon in 2022. For the Urban Waters exhibition in Strandbad Tiefenbrunnen in Zurich, we converted Algaeia into a site-specific Augmented Reality experience. An orange buoy with a QR code is placed on a bench in the Strandbad and serves as a portal to enter the Augmented Reality experience.
